Thank you, Windows.

I do use Windows – Lightroom and Photoshop sadly do not run under Linux.

The other night, I made the mistake of leaving the computer running overnight – not unusual, except that when I do this I am usually running Linux.  This time, I was running Windows, and I had some work open for chrisdzombak.com.

I assumed that the computer would keep running overnight or, if it went down, it would be because of a crash or a power failure.  But no, WIndows decided to download an update, install itself, and restart the computer with absolutely no user intervention.

I came to the computer the next morning to find my GRUB bootloader menu.  “That’s odd,” I thought.  My heart rapidly sank as I booted Windows – again – and was greeted with this:

Windows Restarted Itself

Windows Restarted Itself

Great.

I’ll admit that I installed Service Pack 3 a while ago, which apparently changed my Windows Update settings back to the auto-install option.  Silly me for not suspecting that that would change an option I had specifically set earlier.

Linux never does stuff like this to me.
