Delicious Tags

This is a reference both for me and for anyone wishing to browse through my bookmarks at delicious.

Some background: I had an account at del.icio.us a long time ago, before it was even cool. I added bookmarks without really thinking about them, without adding any useful metadata, and with an inconsistent, ad-hoc tagging scheme. It became impossible to find anything relevant, and I had no choice but to close the account and kill all those bookmarks.

I’ve used Xmarks to keep my bookmarks synchronized for the last two years or so, but I am working on moving back to delicious. This time, I am going to do things right: I plan to add useful metadata and tags, and I will think before adding a bookmark.

To keep tags useful and consistent, I will use these guidelines:

Tags should be singular – not plural – words.
Tags should be one word – no underscores, etc. – unless it is really necessary. If multiple words are necessary, just concatenate them.
Tags should be as simple as possible to describe the topic without being too vague.
Abbreviations are acceptable as long as they’re not crazy.
No “read_later” tag or other “todo” tags. I don’t have time, and they are never actually read.
