Journalism

Quick summary: to stay updated, please follow @cdzombak and @CDzUpdate on Twitter.

I worked for a year and a half (my first three semesters in college) for the Michigan Daily, a prominent student newspaper at the University of Michigan.  I started there as a photographer and became a photo editor after one semester.  During my time there, I had the opportunity to cover Election Day 2008, a major fire near campus, a near-riot at MSU, and other interesting events.

I no longer work for the paper, but from time to time I act as a citizen journalist.  When I hear of an event I find interesting, I will often pack my camera equipment and notebook and document it.

Publishing My Work

Luckily, the Internet makes it easier than ever to publish text, photos, and video; and the popularity of social networks lets people share content very easily.

I generally post my media (short stories, photos, and some video) to my Flickr account and, if the content is sufficiently relevant, publish it on Demotix1. These posts are occasionally announced on this blog, but Facebook and Twitter are the most effective tools I have for quickly disseminating information.

I post a link on Twitter (@cdzombak) as soon as I post new media.  For some events, I will also live-Tweet on the account @CDzUpdate2.

In summary: to stay updated, please follow this blog.  But more importantly, follow @cdzombak and @CDzUpdate on Twitter.

  1. Demotix is a newswire where newspapers and other organizations can buy media contributed by citizen journalists. []
  2. I don’t really want to “spam” everyone who follows my usual Twitter account. []
